Korean
DVD Review By Allen F.
This is a great Korean school/ghost genre film. The
first of a series and a popular early Korean Horror offering.
I was pleased with the DVD version from Tartan very much. I
had only previously saw a VHS rental version that had poor clarity.
We have in Whispering Corridors the Asian schoolgirls (very
popular), past secrets, murder, possession,
mean and nasty teachers (that's sometimes disappear or end up
dead) ghosts and all together creepy happenings at the old school
house. I really liked the bridge suicide scene and that one
will stick with you for some time. As more
of the series like Memento Mori get its upcoming USA release
this small review will graduate to a more expanded feature article.
And Memento Mori is now available (see below) so stay tuned
to this page for a full feature.
I enjoyed
this film a lot and liked the paybacks a bitch theme. The film
is not a jump out of your seat type horror film but is very
fun none the less. Whispering Corridors is a great new release
from TARTAN US and is recommend by Kyonsi. The film will be
enjoyed by fans of The Ring or Ringu and even thought there
is no extremely demonic entity the haunting's are fun and entertaining.
Region 1 US DVD version with extras. This is the first time
the film has been officially released for the US and Canada. |

DVD Review By Allen F.
This is the second (connected only by name) film in
the "Whispering Corridors" series of films from Tartan
US. I did enjoy this film more than the first film. the film
is like the "Whispering" in the sense that it has
the cute Korean schoolgirls in bad and haunting situations at
a girls school. The series has high acclaim these days, but
before the US versions were announced "Momento Mori"
had the most clout here so far. Its good too see that Tartan
is going to eventually put out all three films with "Wishing
Stairs" reportedly scheduled for 2005 DVD release as well.
The film deals with a diary found by one of the students thats
reveals a secret hidded romance between two other girls, one
of them now dead apparently by her own hands. The film of course
then has the hauntings begin after some character set up.
The film
is very watchable and is better than the first one. Tartan gets
more bonus points for getting all three films for DVD release.
A third film (from another company) is currently in the works
with no set DVD information yet (see our news page). If ghostly
dramas with Korean school gals are your bag Momento Mori is
right up your alley. English subtitles are good and the picture
quality if presentable. This ghostly genre fave is not really
a scare the hell out of you horror film, its more paced and
dramatic than some Japanese horror films. Oh and do not forget
to "remember the dead"... |
