A TALE OF TWO SISTERS
2- Disc DVD Set
Review By Allen F.

This new release disc from Tartan US should be another example of what and how to release great Asian horror films in the US. This film is a horror film and has all the trappings of a good haunted house flick. This is now one of my fave Korean horror films to date and the best straight horror film from Korea covered on our web site. I also enjoy some other work from the Director Kim Ji-Woon like his past genre offerings The Quiet Family and the Memories segment from the Horror Trilogy Three.

The new disc from Tartan is near perfect and offers a whole second DVD disc full of interesting extras. The commentary is intact as on the Korean version but it is not in english. Most of the rest of the extras are english subtitled. The extras show alot about the making of the film and the use of the wallpapers in the backgrounds and there meanings to the wallpapers believe it or not. The explanation of this is very interesting but view the extras only after watching the film as they contain spoilers. Alot of CGI was used in the film but it was so well done you cannot really even see it till they show you how and where it was used. The CGI also was impressive as I really did not know they used much until I watched the extras. Be sure to watch the informative segment on set design and the antiques as well.

This haunting film delves into the world of a young girl returning home with her sister from a stint in a local mental hospital. Returning home she's happy to again be with her sister that she missed so much. At home she finds the evil stepmother being just as mean and nasty as ever and possibly even hurting her sister. Her father is very passive and does not really ever say much or take sides. Then things start to happen and more is revealed. Spooky noises, hidden secrets?, ghostly and horrifying visits from beyond, this films got alot of odd stuff happening. The film may take two sittings for you to take it all in. This film is hard to give a full storyline for without possibly spoiling the twists and yes there is several of them in this movie. There are some good jump scares and the general content of the film is intense and the suspense works in Tale of Two Sisters.

What is going on you may ask during the film you may ask but just wait for the revelations to come. This horror film takes some brains and imagination. I have actually talked to several people that had different impressions of the film after watching it all liked it but some got different impressions of this tale. I got it after seeing in once in the theater and then again watching the disc set. My co-writer got a bit different impression then I did and after a discussion we agreed we had the film all figured out, or did we? Highly Recommended creepy , atmospheric and thought provoking. A must have Korean horror DVD set. Thanks to again to Tartan Films for the official US release of this Korean horror movie.
