Kung
Fu Hustle (aka Gong Fu) HK 2004
Review by Allen F.
A hilarious
and well done combo of Kung Fu & comedy. The best fun
film since Chow's "Shaolin Soccer". The film takes
place in 1940's China and is a hilarious mo lei tau (loosely
translated "makes no sense") comedy and has a ton
of high tech very well done CGI, wirework, and special effects.
The amount of special effects far surpasses the amount used
in "Shaolin Soccer".
Chow plays
a lowlife aspiring to be a member of the infamous Axe Gang,
a triad of sorts that extorts the people of the city. The
film is slick and comical and if your a fan of Chow's work
this is a must have or see release. Chow is entagled in a
war between the Axe Gang and the residents of a poor apartment
complex called The Pig Sty. Will Chow become an Axe Gang member?
or will he help the citizens of the Pig Sty (some are well
trained martial arts experts incognito)? You will have to
see the film to find out. Of course Chow end up in a ton os
silly and harrowing situations and has to get himself out
of all the trouble he has caused for himself as well as the
Pig Sty. A fun film thats highly recommended. Well shot and
acted and some of the best cartoony special effects I have
seen in ages.
